Please join us in welcoming our new Project Director, Tsegahun Ayele, to Adams Thermal Foundation Ethiopia (ATFE).

In December of 2020, Tsegahun took over responsibility for the operations of Adams Thermal Academies in Hosanna and Ottoro. Prior to joining ATFE, Tsegahun held various positions with the EECMY School for the Deaf in Hosanna including Unit Leader, Deputy Director, Head of Education and Teacher Training. In addition, Tsegahun served on the Parent / Teacher Committee at Adams Thermal Academy Hosanna for several years prior to becoming Project Director.

Tsegahun is not only a...

It's been exactly one year since our U.S. staff have been to Ethiopia. So it was encouraging to once again be with our staff and students in Hosanna and Ottoro this past February. Thank you to everyone who prayed for our health and safety.
While new international travel restrictions added some complexity to our trip, there were no problems in meeting the new requirements. In addition, planes and airports were full of travelers resuming their personal and business trips.
While visiting Ottoro, our staff was able to connect with the local elders and discuss current and future projects...

It's one of the biggest and most important festivals on the Ethiopian calendar. Timkat or Timket, which is translated "baptism", is an Orthodox Christian occasion to mark the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River. It is also known as the Ethiopian celebration of Epiphany which is recognized and celebrated by the Christian church worldwide. Since most of the population is Orthodox Christian, millions of Ethiopians celebrate the occasion of Timkat.

Timkat is on 19th of January and the full event lasts for 3 days. On the 18th of January, preparations begin for Timkat....

After nearly nine months out-of-school, the lower grades at Adams Thermal Academies are back in the classroom. Ethiopia took a phased approach in bringing students back to school after the COVID shutdown earlier in the year. First the older students in grades 5-12 were allowed to come back at the beginning of November. Then the lower grades, KG through 4th, came back in late December. Our schools are now full with a total enrollment of 1,273 in Hosanna and Ottoro! And we're continuing with our mitigation plans to protect all...

Ethiopia uses the Julian calendar, so the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and Evangelical Churches celebrate the birth of Christ on January 7. The day is known as Ganna in Ethiopia. The day before Ganna, people fast all day. On the morning of the 7th, everyone dresses in white, most in a traditional ‘shamma’ which is a thin white cotton wrap, and attend the early mass at 4:00 AM. The Priests wear turbans and red and white robes and carry beautiful embroidered and fringed umbrellas.

Modern Orthodox Churches in Ethiopia are built in concentric circles. The...

Have you ever felt the calling to use your gifts and talents in the mission field? For some, the answer might be "yes . . . but". While overseas missions can be off-the-charts gratifying, the process of making it happen can be so overwhelming that many who hear the "calling" are prone to give-up before they ever get started.

One of the many blessings that we experienced as an organization this past year was the development of a partnership with an international missions organization called "TeachBeyond". Through TeachBeyond, educators, administrators and school support...

Many have asked if school is back in session in Ethiopia. The answer is YES! And the Adams Thermal Academies are leading the way back to school!

In early November, grades 5 through 12 in Ethiopia were allowed back in the classroom if a COVID prevention plan was presented to the Zonal government and approved. Our team in Addis Ababa along with the schools in Hosanna and Ottoro worked aggressively to develop measures that would allow school operations to continue while keeping students and staff safe. These measures included contact-less hand washing, social distancing,...

We've always promised that 100% of sponsor or donor gifts will go directly to our Ethiopian students in Hosanna and Ottoro. But the reality is that we actually send more than 100% of our gifts each month. Often it's double or even more than that - in excess of 200% of what we receive.
There's more than 1,200 at-risk students enrolled at Adams Thermal Academies, but a little more than 800 of those students are sponsored. So who makes up the difference so that every classroom can be full? Who covers all the administrative costs of the Foundation? It's...

Many of our supporters have a relationship with the organization through child sponsorship. One of the key people working "behind-the-scenes" is Keith Beachler, our Director of Sponsorship. Keith also wears two hats in the same way that other Foundation staff do. As Director of Sponsorship, Keith is responsible for our Sponsor Advocate program, sponsor communications and also assists the Foundation with Human Resource-related issues, logistical tasks and events. In his role with Adams Thermal Systems, our parent organization, Keith oversees Human Resources and Safety.

Supporting overseas missions is nothing new to Keith because he's...

Did you know there's someone on our staff to help you with your child sponsorship experience?
This past May, we created a new position at Adams Thermal Foundation called the Sponsor Advocate. The core responsibility of the Sponsor Advocate is to help our friends and supporters engage and interact with the person(s) they sponsor. Part of this responsibility includes helping sponsors use their online Sponsorship Portal. The portal is a private web-page where sponsors can manage their sponsorship and correspond with those they sponsor.
Cindy Schmitz is one of...
