Many have asked if school is back in session in Ethiopia. The answer is YES! And the Adams Thermal Academies are leading the way back to school!

In early November, grades 5 through 12 in Ethiopia were allowed back in the classroom if a COVID prevention plan was presented to the Zonal government and approved. Our team in Addis Ababa along with the schools in Hosanna and Ottoro worked aggressively to develop measures that would allow school operations to continue while keeping students and staff safe. These measures included contact-less hand washing, social distancing, masking and a six-day school week to allow for classes to be divided in two. Our staff would have to work extra hours and teach every subject twice to allow for social distancing in the classroom and common areas.

The Zonal government not only approved our plan, but notified other schools in the region to look at Adams Thermal Academies as an example of how COVID prevention should be done. The local TV station even took notice and is planning to come out and document our school operations for others to see. Our thanks and gratitude go out to the teachers and administrators who are giving extra time and energy to get our students back to class.

If you sponsor an 8th grader at one of our schools, you should know that they took the national exam last week. The outcome of this exam determines a student's future educational opportunities, so they are anxiously awaiting for results. This would be a great time to reach out and offer your encouragement!
