NewYear.jpg

Today is New Year's Day, but only in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a different calendar than the rest of the world and has continued to use the same calendar that the Roman church amended in 525 AD.  As a result, the Ethiopian calendar features 13 months. Because of this difference, today is the first day of 2015…in Ethiopia. The beautiful yellow Meskel flower is culturally an important part of the Ethiopian new year.
